Sneak Peek Carousel Week: Hello Fox
20 Thursday Sep 2012
Today we had the privilege of sitting down with Fox, one of the characters created for the new custom carousel on the Rose Kennedy Greenway.
Welcome to the Greenway, Fox. How have you enjoyed Sneak Peek Carousel Week?
Not to brag, but I am the grand finale! I am so excited for Fox Day, because I’ll finally get the chance to meet my adoring public! The other carousel characters have been raving about how much fun they’ve had interacting with people in the Greenway District. My favorite part is the fact that we all have riddles people need to solve to find us. Don’t tell the others, but I worked with the Conservancy to help create my own. And yeah, it’s clever.
We know you are clever, Fox. Does it come in handy?
I think being able to carrying on a nice conversation is an art form. I try and remember people’s names, even if I’ve only met them one time. And now that I am out and about in Boston, people are asking me for restaurant recommendations, helpful hints for getting around the Greenway, and advice about the MBTA system. Just to name a few examples. I guess I just look smart.
The other characters say you have brains and beauty.
Well, shucks. That’s nice, isn’t it? Personally, I think being smart is more important than being beautiful, but it’s nice to have a little of both. But let’s be honest – there is no way I can compete with Butterfly and her friends. They are dazzling. Ethereal.
You look back at the people who are riding you. Why’s that?
Eye contact is so important! You learn so much about people when you get the chance to really talk face to face. I wouldn’t have it any other way. But it does have its drawbacks, too. Some little kids seem to really enjoy poking me in the eyes, but it’s a small price to pay. The other characters and I joke about it. We call it the “Three Stooges Hello.”
We’ve heard you may be sticking around Boston for a little bit longer?
Yes, a few of us will be staying downtown for a while, while the others return to Newburyport. I am so psyched to have the chance to extend my stay, and can’t wait to have more great stories to share with the new members of our Carousel family when I get back to the studio. I may send them postcards while I am away, since staying in touch is so important.
