How did your business begin?

Moyzilla opened its food truck window for the first time on April 1, 2014. Flashback to 2012, I was four years removed from University and feeling the grind of life as 9-5’er. It’s safe to say that Moyzilla started as a series of cubicle day dreams.

Why did you decide to vend via food truck?

During my lunch breaks I’d walk around the city (mostly on The Greenway!), time the lines, eat at, and jealousy gaze into Boston’s earliest food trucks. I’d always loved to cook and had grown up helping with my family’s restaurant business. One day I randomly saw an ad to apply to the next season of Food Network’s “Great American Food Truck Race.” I’d always been a fan of the show and decided to put together an application. Surprisingly, we got a call back and the interview process started – long story short we made it to the last round of the process but fell short. The process gave me the opportunity to develop the business plan further and left me even more motivated to bring Moyzilla to life. That summer we took it to the next step and tested the Moyzilla concept at festivals around the city via pop-ups – we were completely taken aback by the reception and summed up enough courage to build out our first truck!IMG_3383

Why did you choose The Greenway as a location to vend and how long have you been vending here? How has The Greenway improved your business?

Since 2014 we’ve grown to 4 food trucks, a shipping container restaurant (located at the Innovation & Design Building in Boston’s Seaport Neighborhood), and over 20 employees! None of this would have been possible without our partnership with the Greenway Conservancy.

We first applied to the Greenway’s Mobile Eats program in 2014 – we were brand new and the Greenway Conservancy team took a chance on us. It opened the doors to the city and over the last 6 seasons has given us consistency in an otherwise inconsistent industry. We’re extremely grateful to be a part of such a vibrant program and to be able to call The Greenway our “office”!

What is your favorite Greenway event?

Our favorite Greenway event is The Greenway Food Truck Truck Festival! It’s a wonderful event to kick off the new food truck season. We run all year round so having this festival reminds us that spring is here and beautiful weather is on the horizon.

What is your favorite Moyzilla dish / what would you recommend to customers?

Our favorite Moyzilla dish is the classic pork dumpling. Not only is it our most popular off the food truck, but it holds a special place since it’s Jon’s family recipe. We’re happy we can share that with everyone!moyzillatruck

Besides Moyzilla, what is your favorite Greenway Food Truck to grab breakfast/lunch/snack from?

We love the variety of food trucks The Greenway has to offer, which is what makes it a great place to be. With that said, we do have our moments of giving into our guilty pleasure and we were so excited to learn that Bonetown Burgers is on The Greenway this year for the first time! They’re just awesome people and their food is a knock-out.

What are your plans for the future?

We took our first step of having a brick and mortar by opening our shipping container at the Innovation and Design Building this April! It’s been an enriching experience thus far, churning out good food consistently and having it be a test kitchen space. In the future, we hope to continue to improve our food truck operations, perhaps add a restaurant at some point, maintain our partnerships with the Greenway Conservancy and the beautiful City of Boston, create jobs, and make customers smile by eating quality food.

We can’t wait to spread dumpling love for years to come! #makewayfordumplings
